Yokohama Sushi Bar
About This Spot
Stepping into Yokohama Sushi Bar feels like discovering a quiet corner of Japan tucked away along Sam Nujoma Drive. The space opens up with an unhurried calmness, where wide, simple lines in the interior give it a spacious, almost minimalist air. It’s the kind of place where the gentle rhythm isn’t set by bustling chatter or clinking glasses, but by the practiced hands of chefs crafting each slice and roll with care—something you quickly notice whether you choose to linger inside or take your sushi to go.
Though the seating area can feel a little spacious and reserved, this lends itself to a peaceful atmosphere free from distractions, inviting diners to slow down and truly savor each bite. The pace here is measured, a subtle reminder that good sushi isn’t about rush but rhythm and precision. The staff, quietly attentive and welcoming, add a warm human touch, bridging the calm of the dining room with friendly smiles and short exchanges that make every visit feel personal.
The menu invites exploration beyond the familiar, offering thoughtfully prepared selections that cater to a broad range of tastes. Vegetarians and traditional sushi lovers alike can find something to delight their palate, from artful platters that look almost too beautiful to eat, to simpler nigiris and maki that let fresh ingredients speak for themselves. The balance of flavors here is delicate yet deliberate, a quiet celebration of how sushi can be both comforting and surprising.
Yokohama Sushi Bar sits quietly off the main path of Swakopmund’s restaurant scene, but those who wander in often return with a similar sense of appreciation for its understated charm. This is a place to pause, enjoy subtle layers of taste and texture, and maybe share a brief moment with the chefs behind the counter—small, memorable human touches that transform a meal into a gentle local experience.

Really friendly staff, but it seems a bit dead inside… the space is quite big and boxy and theres hardly anyone in there lots of the time. But it was of little matter to me since I got take out both times, and while waiting made nice small talk with the chef. Plus of course, the sushi is what actually matters, and it was beautiful and tasted even better.

Yokohama sushi is a hidden gem that offers amazing sushi at a reasonable price. The chefs are very friendly and skilled, and they prepare the sushi right in front of you. The restaurant is clean and cozy. The sushi is fresh and flavorful, and they have options for vegans as well. The only downside is that the rice is a bit too sweet for my (European ;)) taste, and the place could use a minor renovation to improve its appearance. However, these are minor issues that do not affect the quality of the food or the service. I had a great experience and would recommend!
